Camouflage Christian Life – What is it?
There are two ways of looking at the topic of what a camouflage Christian is.
The first would be someone who pretends to be a Christian when he or she is around Christians in order to belong. This type of person would be someone who never had a saving faith in Jesus Christ.
I liken this type of person to one of the religious leaders of Jesus’ day.
They talked a good talk but as Jesus put it they were like white washed tombs on the outside they looked good but on
the inside they were filled with dead mans bones.
The other way of looking at what a camouflage Christian is and the one I am referring to for the sake of this
lesson is the following: a person who does have a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ and has accepted Him as their personal
Savior, but who for one reason or another hides their faith when they are in mixed company, (Christians. and Non Christians)
Some Christians instead of asserting their faith in public go into hiding.
A Faithshaper never hides the truth but using their love of Jesus in order to help and show others the truth, the life
and the way.
Have you ever become a camouflage Christian? If so list the reasons
why.
Camouflage Christian Life - From The Inside Out
While you are trying to camouflage your Christian walk you need remember something about what is going on inside
of you. Unlike the person who is faking his or her conversion you have saving
faith in Christ. When you started your walk with Christ the Bible that “put
off the old man … and put on the new man”.
What does mean to you to put off the old man?
The problem is that we live in a world where our physical appearance is in competition with our emotional, intellectual
and unfortunately the Holy Spirit living inside of us. We want the best of both
worlds so we camouflage what is inside of us by acting like the world expects us to.
We should be going around being led by the Holy Spirit and God being our foremost image.
After all it is not what you look like on the outside that is really important but what you look like to God
on the inside. God see the hearts the heart.
If you do not believe me read the fiolloweing verse and write out your own conclusions from each verse
Romans 8:27
Isaiah 66:18
Psalm 139:1
Psalm 44:21
Revelation 2:23
So what did you find out from these verses?
- God sees our hearts
- God knows what we are thinking
- God judges by where you heart is and not how you
look
- You can’t camouflage the truth so God can’t
see it
Can you think of some others?
Remember this verse in Jeremiah 10:2 which says in part ‘DO NOT IMITATE THEIR WAYS”.
I capitalized that verse because it says that we are
not to camouflage ourselves, even for a little while, we are to stand out in the crowd and be the proverbial beacon for others
to follow.
Read Matthew 5:14-16
What is this verse about?
What does this verse have to do with being a camouflage
Christian?
As a Faithshaper we are called to throw off the camouflage
and set an example. It is not going to be easy.
The easy thing to do would be to stay in hiding, but Christ calls us to a life that is not easy and that is filled
with pitfalls.
The reward for faithfulness will come at the end of
this life and the begining of our new life with Christ.
One final thought, when in doubt the ultimate camouflage
is sharing Jesus Christ. Sometimes to blend in you must stand out.
Your daily Journal
1. Look in the mirror and study your features. If I were to see you on the street would I be able to tell if you were a Christian
or just some Joe or Jane some. I know you’re going to say that if you were
walking the street you would not be able to tell a Christian from anyone else, which is probably true. The point is are you acting like you are saved or are just going with the flow.
The first part of getting rid of the camouflage is to
develop the attitude of Jesus Christ.
2 Practice taking off the camouflage – Pray
to God for assistance and practice in your mind the best and worst case scenarios that could happen when the camouflage comes
off. Write down what each of the scenarios felt like to you. Then decide for yourself if the worst-case scenario is worth keeping your life as a Christian a secret
from others.
3. Finally envision a successful life for Christ,
one in which you tell anyone and everyone that will listen what it is like to be a follower of God. Now go and do likewise
