I. WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS ABOUT SIN
A.
WHAT IS SIN?
In 1John 3:10 it says, “Anyone who does do what is right
is not a child of God”. This is the essence of sin, not doing what we are
asked to by God. Our sins are an affront to God because when you come right down
to it, God gives us a gift each day we are alive and instead of thanking Him we slap Him in the face and turn and walk the
other way.
Now think about how you would feel if you took the time
to create something for someone, in fact labor out of love for six days in creating your gift.
Then you present tha gift to the person you created it for and what do they do but slap you in the face and say to
you, “hey that is not enough I want more”. That is what we do to
God everyday.
B.
WHAT IS SIN? – WHO SINS?
Now you might be thinking to yourself I am not that bad so God will be ok with me because I am not really
a sinner. Well read the following verses and then see if you can say that to yourself any longer.
Romans 3:23
James 2:10
Now after reading those verses can you truly say that you
are without sin?
C. WHAT IS SIN?
– THE CONSEQUENCES
In the Garden of Eden God told Adam and Eve that if
they ate from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil they would surely die (Genesis 2:17).
Yet they ate from of it and then God came a calling. Imagine for a moment
their fear at knowing two things that God was looking for them and He had said that if they disobeyed they would surely die. Look up and read Genesis 3:8-9.
Adam and eve were fearful because they did not want to
meet their fate, death. Then to make matter worse instead of admitting what they
had and taking their punishment they each played the blame game. Adam blamed
Eve and Eve blamed the serpent.
If you read Genesis 3:14-19 you will see that God did not strike
Adam and Eve dead but He did pronounce several curses on them and banished them from paradise.
This is the beginning of consequences of sin:
First, it was the end of man’s close relationship with God. God could no longer walk with man and no longer cold man approach God as they had before. Sin is an obstacle to our relationship with God
Read Ephesians 4:17-19
Second, it was the end of the innocent relationship between man and woman. Before the fall naked and innocent after the fall well read Genesis 2:25 and you will
find the answer. Lets put it this way the first clothing was invented.
Third, it was the end of their perfect environment. Man was destined to work the earth and woman’s pain in labor as in childbirth was greatly increased
Fourth, man did not immediately die but with the fall came a slow decent into
the death of our physical body.
D. WHAT IS SIN? – WE NEED A SAVIOR
God knew what was going to happen so even before He created us had a plan in place for our redemption. Man would need someone to take his or her place and bear on His shoulders the punishment
for our sins. We all know that Jesus Christ came once to die for the sin of all
mankind. Once we given our lives to Him we are born again and start to live the
Christian life. The misconception is that we will no longer sin; we will and
do each day. That is why we need to confess to God our sin and to ask for the
strength to overcome temptation. We also need to rid ourselves of anything that we feel may cause us to fall into sin. I call this the cleaning out your kitchen phase.

CLEAN OUT THE KITCHEN –
GET RID OF WHAT CAUSES YOU TO SIN
Your mind is like a computer it stores information for fast and easy retrieval.
The problem with your mind is that just like a computer what you put into it is what will come out of it. Computer programmers
have a term for this it is GIGO, garbage in, garbage out.
This means that if you continually fill your mind with the wrong kind of information,
you will never feel close to God.
That is why the first step in any exercise program is to get rid of any thing that
will cause you to turn away from the designed program. God
in His infinite wisdom knows that when we come
to Him in faith we must get rid of the old self and whatever goes with it. This is his KP duty.
To grow in faith you must allow God to show you those areas of your life that need
to be cleaned out. This cleaning out process can be as simple as getting rid of those physical or material possession
that you find yourself worshiping more than God, or could be as complicated as a whole new thought process.
The important thing is that you take this KP duty seriously.
It must be a daily task performed out of your love for God and your desire to have
a closer walk with Him. The main thing is that you are going to have to let go of the old man or woman and set your
mind on God.
This means no more Garbage in and you will no longer get the Garbage out.
So if you’re serious about strengthening your faith and developing
a better life with God then get up out
