PURPOSE OF THIS STUDY: To develop and build on the belief that the Bible really is what it claims to be, the Word of God.

TODAY'S THEME VERSES:  "The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands."  Psalm 19: 1

HARD SAYING FOR THE WEEK:

Read II Samuel 6:1-7. Picture in your mind a party, but not any ordinary party, a party where the center of attention is God. Please are dancing, singing, playing instruments for the sole purpose of celebrating God. What a great time!! Suddenly, someone falls over dead in the middle of the party because they did "one little thing" that may have been not quite the way that God wanted it. How would you respond? What would you do? Isn't this being too harsh on God's part? Isn't it enough that people would desire to come and praise Him? Why do things always have to be His way or no way? Isn't this being unfair? If this story is true, doesn't it contradict the fact that God is a merciful, loving God?

INTRODUCTION TO THE STUDY

Revelation (Web.) - The act of making something known or disclosing information to someone(s).

We will be speaking this morning and next week of God's communication, His making known of things to us. How does He do it?

A.      General/Natural - External and internal disclosure which comes to a human       being from God in the mediate, natural mode (mediate=acting through an       intervening agency, ex. I will give this pen to _____ thru _____). This       happens both from outside us (God's created order) and inside us (our       conscience, sense of right and wrong).

Look at the following verses and explain how these support/disprove the definition       above. Answer the following about these:  1) What kind of general revelation is    being talked about?  2) What do humans do or should they do about what they       know from these verses?

      Psalm 19: 1-4, 14                   Romans 1:18-20, 32

      Acts 14:16,17                            Romans 2:13-15

      Acts 17:16-31(focus on vv. 22-3, 29-30)      Romans 10:16-18

Rom. 1 - Human beings owe God-- existence, worship, obedience, service

Sin is a refusal to recognize God for who He is. They instead make themselves       god.

What should our response be to these facts around and from inside us?

Faith - A response to a word from God. Heb. 11:6 says this: "And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to Him MUST believe that He exists and that he rewards those who diligently seek Him."

How about you? Do you have faith? Do you believe that He is God or are you making your own gods (like sports, material possessions, popularity, family)?

Next week, we'll talk about special revelation and what that has to do with trusting God and His word.
