God’s Expectations for the Christian

 

1.    The Christian’s Duty In Government

A. Fear God and Live Righteously

            King David’s 8 Point Plan for Government services: 1 Chronicles 28:9; 1 Kings 2:2-3,

 

1.       Know Him-The God of they father/Jehovah: 1 Chronicles 28:9

 

2.       Serve Him- With a clean heart and a willing mind; 1 Chronicles 28:9

 

3.       Seek Him- make Him the object of your desires; 1 Chronicles 28:9

 

4.       Be strong- firm and courageous; 1 Kings 2:2

 

5.       Be Obedient – keep God’s complete revelation; 1Kings 2:3

 

6.       Be a man- 1 Kings 2:2

 

7.       Execute Justice – as God would impose justice; 1 Kings 2:63

 

8.       Show Kindness – in judgment, exhibit God’s mercy as He would extend it ; 1 Kings 2:7

 

 

B. Fulfill the duties of a minister of God

a.       They are to be “nursing fathers and mothers” to the people of God, Isaiah 49:23 (feed the people)

b.       They are to be “ministers’ or “deacons” of God, Romans 13:4 (Serve the people)

c.       They are counted as “public shepherds” who are to feed and guide the people of God, Psalms 78:71-71

d.       They are designated by God as the “captain of His people”, 1 Samuel 10:1; 2 Kings 20:5

e.       They are to act as “shields of the earth” and to act as protection for God’s people, Psalms 47:9

f.         They are to be the “avengers of God”, Romans 13:4

 

Notice that the people of God are responsible for the physical and spiritual needs of the people not the government.
