Purpose:

To show that we are made in the image of God and because of that we should have both a positive self image as well as shaping our voew of humankind

Key Verse:

Gen 1:26

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, [a] and over all the creatures that move along the ground."

  1. We exist because of God

1.) Read Genesis 5:1

This verse says we bear the _____________?

What does this mean for you and me?

How does knowing we are created in the image of God help with our self-image?

2.) Read Acts 17:26-28

These verses state that in God we ________ and _________ and __________?

According to these verses our very image is in God and he has created us as we are.  It is sin that causes that image to get distorted

3.) Read James 3:9

This verse talk about how we use our tongue to curse others showing us again how sin distorts our view of seeing others as bearing the likeness of God.

B.     Because we are made in the Likeness of God every person has a unique personality and an individual worth

What does this mean for us as we look out upon this world God’s creation

1.) Psalm 139:1-8

As you read this passage think about how God takes the time and cares to know each of His creations even before we are born.   Because of this all human life should be cherished and protected not neglected or abused.   This is a little different then the world view which shows life to be nothing more than a chance happening of evolution.

      C.    God forbids the unlawful destruction and abuse of human life

               1.) Read Genesis 9:6

Here you see that God says there should be a punishment for murder.

This includes the killing of the weak and innocent by means of abortion and

               euthanasia.

2.) What about cultural bias, gender discrimination, ignoring the poor, the disables and aged or any other form of injustice against humanity: does God hate all of these and why?

Read Acts 10:27,28:

What do these verses say about how we should view other people?

Read 1 Corinthians 9:19-23
What do these say about how we are to act around other people?

Remember these verse are not a license to sin but a call to put ourselves in

the mindset of God and see how he would view the people around us.

3.) Talking about sin, how should we act around those who we know are openly

   sinning against God?

   Read Romans 13:8-10

These verses sum up how we should treat sinners as well as everyone because as

has been stated everyone is made in the image of God and therefore everyone

   deserves love.

In closing: If we say we love the Lord with all our hearts then we must strive to protect the dignity of every human being
